Wether you decide to survive an emergency by heading for the hills or in situ, you will need an emergency three day backpack stored in your vehicle.

In the event of an emergency you will need to store a three day backpack and one handheld CB radio in your vehicle.  One backpack for each person who normally rides in your vehicle.

My three day back pack contains the following:
Water resistant boots
3 pair of wool socks
1 Alpaca wool sweater
1 Tyvek coveralls, including hood, covered feet and elastic wrist sleeves
Military poncho
Military floppy hat
Acrilic scarf
Ear muffs
Wool hat
Ski gloves
Jersey gloves
Multi tool, including a knife and a can opener
Whistle
Led flashlight
Small trowel, for digging cat holes with
2 Bottles of water, and three gallons of water in the trunk
3 days supply of finger foods.

If you have only one vehicle and you drive your significant other to his/her job and two children to school then you will need four three day backpacks in your vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle should inspect your significant other's work area and designate where it would be best to pick her up.  The significant other should be familiar with her work area and if she agrees then that is where you should pick her up.

Contact her by CB radio before you pick her up at the designated spot.  It may not be safe to pick her up at this spot as a result of the emergency.

Your significant other should also store a three day supply of food, water and a hand held CB radio at work.  If diaster strikes and you cannot reach her then she has the necessary food and water to survive.  The CB radio will allow you to communicate with each other.

If you have children in school then the driver of the vehicle should inspect the school area and deceide where it would be best to pick up the children.  If the children disagree then you should agree on where you will pick them up.

Before picking them up during an emergency contact them by CB radio to make sure that the designated pickup place is safe.

Your children should have a three day supply of food, water and a hand held CB radio in their school lockers.  If your children are at school when diaster strikes and you cannot reach them then they will have the necessary food and water to survive at school.

In the event of an emergency everybody should turn on their handheld CB radios and tune in to the designated channel.  They should do this even if everyone is outside of the their CB range.  Mom and dad may be enroute to pick them up.

If you manage to arrive at the designated pickup point your significant other and the children should bring their food, water and CB radio to your vehicle.
