POTABLE WATER

After sanitation comes the need for potable (drinkable water) water and you will need a lot of it.

Most companies that sell a years supply of dehydrated food do not tell you how much drinking water you will need to reconstituteit.  You will need a lot of drinking water.

Drinking water is more important than food.  Most people who do not have any food storage have enough food in their pantry to survive for several weeks.  If you do not have the necessary drinking water in storage then you may have none available during an emergency.

If the only water you have is water that has not been sanitized then you will be tempted to drink water that is poluted or exposed to disease.  Drinking water that is contaminated may make you sick or even kill you and your family.

Most survival experts place the need at about one gallon per person per day.  Your body converts food into the necessary elements that your body needs.  Your body also converts some of your food into extremely toxic compounds.  Water is necessary to help your body remove toxins from your system.

Your body removes water soluable toxins through urine.

My water storage plan has 6 gallohns of drinking water from a box store stored under the bathroom sink.

I have a case of bottled water in storage.  Each bottle still has the manufactures seal on it.  They each contain 1/2 liter of water.  The case has 12 liters of water or over 3 gallons.

I also buy cans of carbonated water that is unsweetened with a little flavoring added to it

My fourth storage of drinking water is to buy two liter bottles of soda water.  If an emergency comes then I can drink the soda as a substitute for drinking water.  The cost of a gallon of water is about a dollar.  You can't buy the 2 liter bottle for that price.

My forth storage system consists of cleaning every glass jar and filling it with tap water.  Store the water in a cool dry environment.

Toxins that cannot be disolved by water are removed as fecal matter.  Fecal matter needs water to lubricate the digesting food as it slides through the small and large intestines.  If you do not drink enough water you may experience constipation.

If you are going to survive creeping armageddon and/or homlessness then you will need to drink enough water every day to remove the toxins that your body will develop.

In your emergency three day backpack stored in your car or in a closet near the front door of your home or apartment (if you do not have a car) shoud be three half liter water bottles.  They should have the original manufacturers seal on them.

Stored in the trunk of your car, or closet, should be three gallons of distilled or drinking water.

If you are single and you plan on heading for the hills this will provide you with about four days of water.  After four days most temporary emergencies, such as earthquakes and hurricanes, will be over with and you can return to your home.

If you have a family then you should consider increasing the water stored in your car trunk.

If you plan on surviving an emergency in situ, or after you return home, then you will need to have at least five gallons of drinking water per person stored in your home.  More is better.

You should also have the chemicals necessary to sterilize more water and a water purifer to remove the sterlization chemicals used.

The most common water sterilization chemicals are bleach and iodine.  Neither is user friendly when ingested for a long term.

If you plan on boiling the water to sterlize it then you should have the chemical sterilizer (iodine or chlorine) and water purifing equimpent in your storage area.  Don't assume that you will not tire of boiling water.

Boiling a gallon of water per day per person will use up a large quantity of fuel and time per day.
