Dear Editor: Many people quote the Bible (Letter, Dec 14 Herald) to justify dicrimination against my community.
God gave Moses the Ten Commandments etched in tablets of clay. They are the direct word of God and are immutable.
God uses messengers for the rest of the Bible who then add their own bias to God's words. For example they quote
Leviticus (18:22) who gives admonitions against my community. Yet in Exodus (21:8) it states "But if her master, who
had destined her for himself." In Leviticus consensual relationships between two men is condemned while in Exodus non-consensual
relationshops between a master and his slave are condoned. Exodus (20:24) says "for I am compassionate"
A compassionate God would not condemn consensual relationships between two men while condoning non-consensual relationships
between a man and a woman A biased messenger would inject his prejudice into God's words and claim that they came
from God. The direct word of God is immutable but not those of his messengers. Sheila L Richardson
