Spring flies into autumn as the Canadian snowbirds prepare for their annual migration to Arizona.
Fathers view the changing foilage as added work and children contemplate the institutions of higher learning with impending
doom. Middle-class mothers are heading to the malls to buy school clothes and supplies as these added purchases
place their checking balance in jeopardy. To mothers in the lower economic strata, the choice becomes to put
food on the table or clothes on their children's back. School supplies are not even on the list. Children
need the encouragement of the adult community to do their best in school. When adults tell children to seek knowledge
but do not share in the financial burden of educating these young minds they are saying, "Do as I say and not as I do."
Please join the Opportunity Council and other businesses throughout the county in welcoming back students to their school
by donating school supplies. The Opportunity Council has a list of the needed supplies. Be a positive
influence in a child's life by making a difference in their educational opportunities. Sheila Richardson
